Helen Vargas-Crebas is originally from Brazil. She began her career at Catholic Charities of Atlanta, where she provided legal orientation to pro se detainees at the Stewart and Irwin Detention Centers. Later, and represented vulnerable clients before the immigration court and USCIS. Helen also worked as a staff attorney at the Latin American Association, representing survivors of crimes, and eventually transitioned into private practice, where she assisted clients with various immigration cases, including removal proceedings, naturalization, and family petitions.
Before joining the Sonoda Law Firm in March 2025, Helen served as a Senior Attorney at Kids in Need of Defense, where she represented unaccompanied children in deportation proceedings and in state court matters. From 2021 to 2023, she also served as legal counsel for the Brazilian consulate in Atlanta, helping Brazilian citizens in matters related to international and domestic issues.
Helen obtained her Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Georgia State University. She is licensed to practice law in both the United States and Brazil, and she is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese..
